Scarabs are arguably one of the most recognizable artifacts produced from pharaonic Egypt. No doubt this was due to their long history of production and their portability. This even influences us today as many museums seem to have a few examples in their collections. Have you always wanted to know more about these objects? In this lecture, we are going to take a closer look at these artifacts and learn how they changed through time. We will also investigate the role they served in pharaonic culture.
About the speaker:
Nicholas Wernick is the Calgary SSEA’s current president and has a PhD in Egyptian Archaeology from the University of Liverpool’s Dept. of Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology. His research interests are primarily focused on New Kingdom Egyptian warfare, ancient logistics, cultural interactions in the LBA Levant, and technology transfer in the ancient eastern Mediterranean. In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Wernick also holds degrees and certifications in computer information systems.
